A Day at the Theater

I went to the theater recently and had a splendid time here is a quick review of the play for you all :)
The Duleek Drama Players’ “Anna, the Girl Who Stood Out In The Cold” depicts the enthralling tale of six inmates and their battles to survive in the infamous Auschwitz Concentration Camp. The play is a clever conglomeration of all amazing aspects of theatre. A sprinkle of humour, a dash of song and a teaspoon of tears makes the perfect recipe for a theatrical success.
I was thoroughly captivated by this exclusive insight into the historical hell that was the Holocaust of WW2. Anna (brought to life by the wonderful Grainne Diskin), a twelve year old forced to stand outside barefoot throughout a Polish winter’s night in freezing conditions. This cruel punishment placed upon her by a malevolent, sadistic SS officer for failing to reach her daily work quota. The audience is exposed to the harsh lives of the characters as we are brought alongside them in their struggle to keep Anna alive.
Pity and mercy have no meaning in Auschwitz and these six girls prove that in this camp it takes more courage to live than to die. The character Marysia (played excellently by Carmel Matthew) is the illuminating source of hope amoung the terrifying torment of the camp. As the plot unravels the surface is stripped and the daunting reality of the story is revealed. The threatened fate of the characters lies in the enigmatic question ‘Can love conquer all?’
